BUILDING REVIEW

Building Review Committee

The first step in your process to renovate, build or expand your business in Benton Park will be to contact the City of Saint Louis Building Division or The Business Assistance Center - City of St. Louis. In certain instances, the city will request a letter of support from the local neighborhood.

The BPNA Building Review Committee assists in reviewing your architectural plans or zoning requests on behalf of the BPNA and can supply a letter of support.

National Historic District

In 1985, the United States Department of the Interior designated the Benton Park Neighborhood as a National Historic District. This distinction, in part, enables property owners/developers to qualify for Federal Historic Tax and/or State of Missouri Historic Tax Credits. The success and popularity of these programs require extensive planning, review, and record-keeping.

City Historic District

In 2006, the City of Saint Louis established the Benton Park Neighborhood as a City Historic District. The Benton Park Historic District Ordinance addresses alterations to historic buildings and new construction, as well as restricts demolition within the district.

The City of Saint Louis Building Division accepts applications for building permits and enforces the building codes. Some renovation plans and all new construction are referred to the City of St Louis Preservation Board for a public hearing. When this level of review is deemed necessary, the BPNA Building Review Committee assists in reviewing your plans and provides a letter of support.

The Preservation Board meets on the fourth Monday of the month; please refer to the calendar page for submission dates.
